Description

CONSTRUCTION OF CONCRETE FLOOR AND RAMPS (RE-INVITE) 

The works as described are required on location which is situated in the Elim district which is situated approximately 25km from Napier. Clayish ground conditions can be expected and the contractor must put the necessary precautions in place to be able to work under these conditions. Construction must be effected from November 2017 to February 2018.

 

The scope of works will include:

 

MASS CONCRETE FOOTINGS TO WALLS

Clear site where the new foundation walls are to be constructed and dig trenches for the footings. Cast 15 Mpa (1:3:6 with 38mm stone) concrete footings under new walls of widths and thicknesses mentioned below. The footings are to be stepped according to the slope of the grounds, with 375mm overlap at each stepping, all finished level on top ready for the walling above.

Size of foundations:                        700 x 250mm Thick

 

WALLS (External Walls):

Clay brick wall, 230mm thick, approximately 600mm high above the lower ground level at the lowest point, are to be built in Stretcher Bond. The walls are to be built in 3:1 cement mortar and must end up with at least one brick above ground level on the higher ground level which will be level with the main entrance to the store. Brickwork to walls to be bagged on completion.

  

CONCRETE FLOOR AND RAMPS:

Excavate, fill, level and grade as required, the areas inside the existing store. Lay new dampproof course (Polyethelene sheeting complying with SABS Specification 952 Type B, 375 microns thick) Prepare for and form concrete floor of 25 Mpa (1:2:4 with 19mm stone), 150mm thick, reinforced with mesh reinforcement as ref. 193 (200 x 200 x 5,6mm thick longitudinal and cross welded steel wires) and in panels not exceeding 14m². Tamp concrete to an even surface and finish with a power float finish before the concrete has set. The panles are to be laid in alternate sections chequer board patter, separated from each other. Top corners of all panels to be neatly rounded with a nosing tool while the concrete is still green. Allow for the construction of ramps to the enatrance and exit of the store.

 

CURING OF CONCRETE:

After the concrete has been placed, all exposed surfaces shall be kept continuously damp for at least 10  days  by  methods  such  as  covering  with approved building paper, or by means of wet canvas, wet sacks, wet sand, by continuous hosing or ponding with water.

 

CONCRETE TEST CUBES:

Contractor to make allowance for 3 test cubes of 150 x 150 x 150mm for each individual pour undertaken for concrete. The testing of all concrete cubes will be done by an accredited laboratory approved. The Contractor is responsible for the provision of the cube moulds and for timeous delivery of the cubes to the laboratory. Payment will only be affected after 7 day test results are received and within tolerance.
