Farming with Purpose, Rooted in Legacy
In the heart of Jamestown, where fields stretch wide under the Western Cape sun, lies Lone Oak Boerdery—a fruit and vegetables farm built on legacy, love, and a deep sense of purpose. At the helm is Jeremy Van Der Rheede, a passionate fourth-generation farmer and a second-time beneficiary of support from the Western Cape Department of Agriculture (WCDoA) and Casidra.
With our backing, Jeremy has been able to transform his farming operations—enhancing his irrigation systems, acquiring essential equipment, and securing critical production inputs to meet the growing demands of his diverse enterprise.
But for Jeremy, farming is more than just business—it’s family.
“Farming has been my first love for as long as I can remember,” he shares. “I’m proud to continue the work of my ancestors, and I hope to pass that love down to the next generation.”
Lone Oak Boerdery is a mixed farm that produces not just food—but also creating opportunities for local community. While Jeremy’s hands are busy nurturing crops, his heart is set on cultivating community growth. Through mentorship and training, he actively shares his knowledge with local residents, empowering them with the tools and skills to become self-sufficient farmers.
In doing so, Jeremy is preserving a generational legacy of land, labour, and learning—making sure that the wisdom passed down through four generations doesn’t end with him.
Jeremy’s farm feeds more than just families—it supports the local economy. His fresh produce regularly reaches local markets, and when the yields are strong, he supplies to larger markets too. This success not only strengthens regional food security but also supports his long-term vision: to expand his farm and create new job opportunities for the community.
His journey has been uplifted by strong partnerships.
“In this industry, you need to truly love what you do,” Jeremy says. “I’m grateful that the WCDoA and Casidra share that passion. They understand that farming is more than a career—it’s a vehicle for a brighter, more self-sufficient future for agriculture in South Africa.”
With support, vision, and unwavering dedication, Jeremy Van Der Rheede continues to sow more than seeds—he’s sowing hope, growth, and a future rooted in purpose.
